Note from the Chapel Clerk:

Gentlemen

Thanks to all who attended last Saturday’s very enjoyable Meeting. I was somewhat encouraged by the improved turnout of 35 Members, some of whom had heroically struggled in, notwithstanding the best efforts of the NUR to disrupt travel.

Rick Howarth was somewhat displeased to see his name among those who should have attended and didn’t when he had emailed me to say he couldn’t make it so I’ve altered the wording somewhat and am circulating the amendment by email.

I hope the apparent renewed enthusiasm for the Meetings continues for this year’s other two foregatherings which, if they are not already in your diary are: May 11 and September 7. If you have not already done so, please make a note of these but refrain from intimating attendance or otherwise until the Notice for each Meeting is circulated.

The Meeting, having been brought to attention by much manipulation of the Chapel mallet and planer by the Chapel Clerk, was addressed by our venerable FoC Gerry Dodd, who called for the traditional silence as a mark of respect and remembrance for colleagues who have recently deceased: Pete Travis, Ray Scott, Brian O’Grady, Graham Howe and David Meek.

That having been carried out, the Membership were looking forward with great anticipation to the usual masterful and protracted Dodger oration. But the anticipation quickly turned to keen disappointment when, for once in his long career, the aforesaid Dodger seemed to be lost for words and concluded his address. This brought a huge cheer and much applause from the foregathering which, considering their considerable disappointment at being deprived of the usual monologue, was very commendable.

Chapel Photographer Pete Bradley did his usual stint with the camera but has apologised for some very blurred images which he blames on a camera malfunction. But I suspect that the malfunction had more to do with his new-found love affair with the demon drink than the camera. Mark Laverty will be posting the viewable pics on the Chapel website, the link to which is:

Thanks to all who have given kind words of encouragement recently for me to carry on organising things, but the best encouragement for me is to see much-improved attendances. So please do your best to attend this year’s two other Meetings.

Regards to all.

SB, Chapel Clerk (unelected)
