Note from the Chapel Clerk:
Gentlemen
Thanks to the 22 stalwarts who turned up for the recent September genteel foregathering. As usual a very pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by all – notwithstanding the outrageous bar prices.
We welcomed back amongst us, after lengthy absences, Derek Webster and Peter Bradley (Chapel Snapper un-el). Peter, despite having several health problems, made the arduous journey all the way from Accrington. He tells me he was knackered when he got home and that he will have to ‘build himself up’ before undertaking the journey next time. We wish him well with his recovery and hope to see him at the New Year Meeting. We also welcomed into our midst a new Member. Paul Glover worked in the colour room and was brought in by Simon Elliot. I’m afraid your Officials were rather remiss in not formally introducing him. Sorry about that, Paul.
As usual FoC Gerry Dodd (un-el) treated the Chapel to an entertaining monologue – despite his admission (previously unheard of) that he couldn’t think of anything to say! He spent some time extolling the virtues of Salford until a member of his enrapt audience pointed out that he got out of there as soon as he could and moved to Cheshire. Gerry’s excuse was that ‘my wife dragged me there’. Kicking and screaming no doubt, Gerry. I’m sure you would have preferred to reside in leafy, sunny Salford rather than move out to the awful wasteland of Bowdon.
Gerry then mentioned Peter Bradley’s health problems and spoke about our colleague Bill Hargreaves, who has recently passed away. The Chapel then paid their respects to Bill with the usual silence.
Before Gerry got on his soapbox Chapel Clerk (yours truly, en-el) took the unusual step of addressing the Chapel to exhort Members to check their spam folders regularly in case emails were landing there. This was because some Members were complaining they weren’t receiving emails from him. He stated that no emails were coming back to him as undeliverable, so they must be going into a folder somewhere in their email accounts.
Finally the Chapel Clerk made an impassioned plea that Members do their very best to avoid being on holiday or other arrangements for the second Saturdays of January, May and September next year.
Regards to all
Bill
